DEC seeks input on Southern Tier gas pipeline

The Department of Environmental Conservation is looking for input from Allegany County residents as National Fuel looks to install a 1.5-mile gas pipeline along Stone Dam Road.

Sierra Club Niagara Group Member Lynda Schneekloth is encouraging residents to make their voices heard during the current comment period. The DEC, she says, listens.

"For example, the Northern Access Pipeline appliacation was denied because it actually crossed 90 streams and wetlands," Schneekloth explained.

"The DEC refused to permit because it would cause damage."

The proposed Allegany County pipeline would cross Marsh Creek and Redwater Creek. Schneekloth also believes it will impact a trout fishery.

Those who wish to make a comment must send them in writing by October 19 to:

The DEC announced it is tentatively approving the project, though final decision won't be made until after the comment period.
