The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association union said six corrections officers were injured after attacks by two inmates last week.

The union said it happened on April 6 at the Lakeview Shock Incarceration Facility in the Chautauqua County village of Brocton.

According to PrisonPro, Lakeview is a minimum security-level prison for up to 540 men and 109 women, with special treatment for non-violent offenders. The facility gets its name from the boot-camp like nature of its environment, which is meant to shock an offender into changing poor behavioral patterns.

NYSCOPBA said two inmates attacked the guards as they were being escorted to a facility program in the maximum security area of the facility.

One of the inmates became agitated. Attempts to subdue the inmate failed and one officer was punched several times in the face. The second inmate also refused orders to stop after becoming combative.

Five officers were transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk for a variety of injuries and then released. Three of them did not return to duty.
