Worker fatally shot at Niagara Falls scrap yard

City of Niagara Falls
Matthew Figura Jr., 35, has been taken into custody by police in Thursday's fatal shooting.

A person of interest being sought by Niagara Falls Police in connection with a fatal workplace shooting Thursday morning has been taken into custody by the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department.

Niagara Falls Police responded to a report of shots fired at Niagara Metals on Packard Road in the Falls about 8 a.m. Thursday. They discovered an employee with a fatal head wound and began a search for Matthew Figura Jr., 35.

Figura was last seen driving a black Nissan Frontier pickup truck with Virginia plates. Police said he has contacts in Niagara Falls, Ransomville, Cambria, Lewiston and Lockport. They believed he was headed to the Southern Tier or Pennsylvania before he was found.

The shooting victim is a yet-to-be-identified male employee at Niagara Metals.
