Home healthcare aide admits stealing $50K from elderly client

A home healthcare aide has pleaded guilty of stealing $50,000 from his elderly client in Akron.

In Erie County Court Tuesday, Gregory Dread, 25, of Buffalo pleaded guilty to a felony count of third degree grand larceny, which was the highest sustainable charge against him. Dread admitted to stealing the cash and signed a Confession of Judgement, which requires him to pay full restitution to the victim.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office said a friend of the victim noticed the money missing from a home safe and made authorities aware. The theft occurred between March 8-12, 2020.

Dread was released on his own recognizance until his sentencing, scheduled for Nov. 22. He faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
