People in New York's Livingston County are on edge and classes at SUNY Geneseo have been canceled, as authorities search for a man suspected of pointing a gun at a police officer during a traffic stop.
It happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday near Route 63 and Dewey Hill in Geneseo. Authorities say David Morgan, 49, of Wilmington, NC was in the car with a woman.
After being stopped, they say Morgan got out of the car, pointed a firearm at the officer, then fled on foot into a cornfield. The Rochester-based Democrat & Chronicle reports the officer fired at the suspect. The woman has been captured.
Due to the proximity to the Geneseo campus, classes have been canceled for the day and University Police are asking all members of the on-campus college community remain sheltered in place until further notice. Campus employees have been given the option to come to work or not.
Residents in the immediate area were evacuated and others were urged to stay indoor. Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty says Morgan has a violent past and is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone who has information on Morgan's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
