A 63-year-old Hamburg man remanded to the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden has died of an apparent "cardiac event."

The Erie County Sheriff’s Division of Correctional Health reports that David Stitt left his cell and collapsed in the common area of the housing unit Sunday.

Authorities say Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and called medical personnel, who continued CPR until an ambulance arrived. However, Stitt died.

He had been remanded to the jail without bail on felony charges, which included two or more sexual acts against a child less than 11-years-old and use of a child less than 17-years-old in a sexual performance.
