A North Tonawanda businessman has pleaded guilty to tax evasion, while a Buffalo man has been sentenced on similar charges.The U.S. Attorney's Office says 64-year-old David Schmitt, the owner of delivery businesses Three Kids Trucking and 1553 Harlem Road Inc., admitted he filed false tax forms with the Internal Revenue Service and opened fraudulent accounts for the businesses to the tune of $500,000. He is facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when sentenced in February.
A Buffalo man was sentenced to 41 months in prison Wednesday for tax evasion and wire fraud. The U.S. Attorney's Office says 40-year-old Salvatore Letizia defrauded four people out of more than $360,000 between 2005 and 2009 as investments in fictional business ventures.
Letizia took the invested funds and credit lines and used them for his personal benefit. He also failed to file tax returns for those years.
