An Attica woman who admitted to killing her husband, then burying his body in a pile of manure on their dairy farm, was sentenced Thursday.

48 year old Charlene Mess was given an 18 to 25 year prison term in Wyoming County Court, with up to five years of post-release supervision.

Originally charged with second degree murder, Mess was sentenced to a plea bargained charge of first degree manslaughter, admitting to bludgeoning Douglas Mess and stabbing his body with a pitchfork before burying him in the manure pile in April of last year.

The case came to light when one of the couple's sons reported his father missing, sparking a search. Charlene Mess participated in the search before the body was found.
