A Buffalo teenager faces up to 25 years in prison for participating in the grisly killing of another teen last summer in North Buffalo. A jury Tuesday convicted 17-year-old Ezeiekile Nafi of first-degree manslaughter in State Supreme Court. Nafi and another teen, 18-year-old Demetrius Huff, are facing charges separately for the July 5 murder, which took place on railroad tracks near Colvin Avenue.
Darren Brown, 16, was slashed in the throat and stabbed 54 times before his body was set on fire using gasoline. The motive for the killing is believed to be gang-related.
Huff had taken a manslaughter plea in exchange for his testimony in Nafi's prosecution. But District Attorney Frank Sedita says he will now seek to try Huff for murder after he failed to cooperate. Prosecutors believe another man was involved in the attack, 20-year-old Antoine Sanders, though he has not yet been charged.
Nafi will be sentenced May 1.
