Two Buffalo teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death of 16-year-old Darren Brown.
The teen’s body was found last Friday night in a wooded area off Taunton Place near Colvin Avenue in North Buffalo. Brown was stabbed several times and set on fire.
Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda held a news conference Tuesday night at police headquarters to announce the arrests of 16-year-old Ezeiekile Nafi of East Amherst Street and 17-year-old Demetrius Huff of Jewett Parkway.
Both are charged with murder in the second degree. Homicide detectives say the investigation continues and more arrests are possible.
Tuesday morning, Mayor Brown told WBFO & AM-970 News police were making good progress in the homicide investigation.
"They do have leads and hopefully an arrest will be made," said Mayor Brown.
Mayor Brown stressed this murder was not a “random act”.
"I would remind our young people to be careful of the circumstances they put themselves in," said Mayor Brown.
Brown said despite the recent round of violence, the city’s murder rate is still lower than the same time last year.
"There are less homicides this year than the same time last year, and last year we had a ten-year low in the City of Buffalo," said Mayor Brown.
This latest murder occurred in what is considered a relatively quiet area of North Buffalo. WBFO & AM-970 News reached out to Delaware District Council member Michael LoCurto, but he declined comment.
