A Lancaster man has been sentenced to one-to-three years in prison for the hit-and-run death of a 14-year-old bicyclist.
State Supreme Court Justice John Michalski issued the sentence to 24-year-old Michael Ettipio, who had earlier pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter charges in connection with the death of Bryce Buchholz.
Ettipio was found to be three times over the legal blood alcohol limit for drivers when his vehicle struck and killed Buchholz on May 3rd.
During sentencing Ettipio told the Buchholz family "I'm so very sorry. I understand if you hate me, but I hope someday to earn your forgiveness."
Prosecutors said Ettipio was drinking for five hours at a local bar before he drove his car and struck the boy. Test indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.24 percent, which is three times the legal limit.
The judge said he believes the bar should also be responsible for serving Ettipio.
Ettipio fled the scene, but a witness chased him down.
The Buchhculz family has filed a civil lawsuit against Ettiio and the bar.
