Fifty employees of the Fisher-Price company in East Aurora have been laid off, as part of a nationwide cutback of personnel by parent company Mattel.
About 22,000 people are affected worldwide - some 22 percent of the workforce. Mattel is also closing factories in Mexico and is dealing with a $136 million loss from the recent closure of Toys R Us, one of its largest customers.
That is all part of a company effort to eliminate at least $650 million in net costs. Back-office workers are the ones affected by the most recent layoffs.
