During a boat ride along Buffalo's waterfront, during which Governor Andrew Cuomo and other political leaders celebrated economic development, the head of Empire State Development announced that Moog Incorporated will soon spend million of dollars and create new jobs at two of its local sites.
Howard Zemsky, president and CEO of Empire State Development, announced Moog will invest an estimated $53 million to grow its operations in Elma and Niagara Falls.
"The 95,000-square-foot aircraft manufacturing facility being built in Elma will include new machinery and equipment to further support their aircraft group," Zemsky said.
In Niagara Falls, meanwhile, the company will spend to create a new space propulsion manufacturing and testing facility. Between both projects, an estimated 200 jobs are expected to be created.
Niagara Falls mayor Paul Dyster welcomed the news, saying the jobs Moog will create are essential for his city.
"They've been a major player in aerospace and defense technology for a long time," Dyster said. "It brings, I think, a type of employment to our economy that is very much needed, white collar jobs requiring STEM degrees. This is ver important to keeping economic development balanced in Niagara Falls."
Moog is receiving a total $8.5 million in state Excelsior tax credits for their projects.
