GEICO exceeds hiring goal

Chris Caya WBFO News

The so-called "Oracle of Omaha" was in Amherst Wednesday marking a milestone at one of his companies. Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, which owns GEICO, was on hand to celebrate the insurance company reaching its hiring goal of 2,500 employees two years ahead of schedule. Buffett says the local labor force is key to the company's growth and success.

"We measure each office. We have 10 or so service centers and we know productivity measures, and if you get good people, that's number one," Buffett says.

GEICO is the largest auto insurer in New York State and the third largest in the U.S.

The company's service center in CrossPoint Business Park opened with about 800 employees in 2005.
