Governor Andrew Cuomo is spending millions more dollars on tourism and the man in charge of tourism in Niagara County says that's great news.
Cuomo convened the first Tourism Summit last Wednesday and spent much of the day at the event.
For John Percy, being there was great but bringing money was even better. Percy is president and CEO of Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation.
Percy tells WBFO News recognition Albany realizes the importance of tourism and much needed tourism dollars.
"This was unprecedented, what he did. And, we're so glad that when tourism is at the table, tourism is being spoken from the Executive Chamber, but also how much money he announced for tourism state-wide and that's going to again impact us greatly in Niagara Falls and across the whole entire state," said Percy.
The governor tossed $60-million into the tourism promotion pot, about half going into the areas devastated by Superstorm Sandy.
Percy said what NTCC wants to do is persuade some of the 52-million tourists going into New York City to come up to this end of the state and spend money, as Canada draws on the spillover from Toronto heading down to Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls, Ontario.
