The internet company Yahoo! has announced plans to expand its Lockport operation by adding a second data center and a call center. The new 150,000 square foot facility would be nearly as large as its existing 190,000 square foot operation which opened in 2010 and employs 77 workers. The new operation would add 115 new jobs, including 100 for the call center.
Yahoo! is asking the Town of Lockport for the same incentives it received to build its original plant, an 18-year tax abatement that includes ten years of no property taxes. It also wants sales tax exemptions for building materials, equipment, and furnishings for the new complex.
Yahoo! currently owns 43 acres in the Town of Lockport Industrial Park. The town's Industrial Development Agency is scheduling a public hearing on the plan for April 25.
Yahoo! is also waiting on the New York Power Authority to decide on a requested power allocation for the project.
