The Coronavirus pandemic is causing hardship because of social distancing (see the list of theatrical cancellations and postponements below) and it has led to the sad death of a wonderful friend of Buffalo theater, especially BUA, playwright Terrence McNally, many of whose plays were produced locally.

Many will remember BUA's productions of McNally's LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! as well as MOTHERS AND SONS, THE LISBON TRAVIATA, and SOME MEN. Other local companies had productions of LIPS TOGETHER, TEETH APART as well as A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE  and MASTER CLASS. McNally also wrote the book for some very popular musicals including RAGTIME (seen at both Shawfest and MusicalFare), THE FULL MONTY, and ANASTASIA which is still scheduled at Shea's for May 5-10. That's going to be a "wait and see."

Meanwhile, the 74th Annual Tony Awards, previously scheduled to air live on CBS on June 7th, will be rescheduled..

Here is a list of productions scheduled for WNY this Spring 2020, roughly in chronological order of opening. These are shows that are confirmed as cancelled, curtailed, or postponed in response to COVID-19. Some predictions put the peak of the pandemic in May or later. With various possible scenarios for the future progression of the virus, we can assume that other cancellations and schedule adjustments are forthcoming for the shows marked as ???
