Black Restaurant Week starts Tuesday in Buffalo

Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals

It’s the third year of Black Restaurant Week sponsored by the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals. Its President, Mark Glasgow, is hoping the event will draw people from all across Buffalo to experience what the African American community has to offer.

“Buffalo has many amazing restaurants in the black community that are thriving and they definitely deserve this special opportunity to be celebrated,” said Glasgow. “It’s quite fitting to host Black Restaurant Week during Black History Month, a time where as a nation we recognize the achievements of African Americans.”

Glasgow said the feedback he’s gotten from the first two years of the event has been positive, and said it uplifts commerce in the African American community.

“The folks that visit the places, they are very appreciative of being able to support restaurants in a light that is really bringing a lot of positivity to the realm of black owned businesses.”

Black Restaurant Week runs February 18 through 23 and has at least 13 restaurants participating, with each offering special menu items.

Ryan Zunner joined WBFO in the summer of 2018 as an intern, before working his way up to reporter the following summer.
