'Ninja Turtles' crews to perform lighting tests Friday

WBFO

Call it a test night for the turtles. Crews who are in town to shoot a high-speed chase sequence for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" plan to do prep work along the Kensington Expressway on Friday.  Buffalo Niagara Film Commission Executive Director Tim Clark said a two-and-a-half mile stretch of the outbound expressway between downtown and Scajaquada Expressway will be closed for four or five hours on Friday night as lighting experts perform tests.

While crews are not quite ready to shout "lights, camera, action," Clark tells WBFO there's plenty of behind-the-scenes action.

"There's a ton of preparation work that needs to happen, including the removal of street signs that are sort of in the way. We're starting to see lighting Condors going up now that will be lighting the highway down below," Clark said.

The movie is among the largest to ever be filmed in Buffalo. Paramount Pictures is bringing at least 200 people to the region. Clark estimates that the project will pump $7 million into the local economy.

During the filming that is slated to occur between Monday night and May 18, the inbound and outbound lanes of the Kensington will be closed to traffic between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Motorists will be advised to use detour routes along various streets, including Delaware Avenue, Genesee Street and Harlem Road.
