Higgins frustrated by extension of border closure

Congressman Brian Higgins

After months of lobbying to reopen the U.S. border to Canadians, Buffalo Congressman Brian Higgins is obviously frustrated by Monday's decision that extends the border closure through October 21. That frustration is clearly pointed toward the Biden Administration.

"Well, they're not communicating clearly with anybody so it's hard to explain the inexplicable," Higgins said during a conversation this morning with WBFO.

"The White House, in conflict with itself, and, perhaps, more importantly,is in conflict with the science they purport to follow and push others to follow."

A familiar refrain, Higgins again pointed out how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been saying for months that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can go resume pre-pandemic activity.

"And that includes, for us in Buffalo and Western New York, to open up the border."

Keeping the border closed comes at a cost. "The United States economy is losing about a half-billion dollars a month as a result of the extended land border shutdown."
