The Buffalo Sabres will be on television this Saturday. WGRZ Television, Buffalo's NBC affiliate, has stepped in with a temporary solution in the on-going dispute between the MSG Network and Time Warner Cable.
A programming fee dispute has kept the Sabres off the standard cable-channel lineup since the first of the year, with the exception of a few nationally televised games.
MSG's executive vice president and general manager Dan Ronayne tells WBFO News unfortunately there are no plans for local affiliate to air the rest of the Sabres games.
"We are a cable television satellite network. We're not an over the air network like NBC, so to do it on a steady basis is not in our plans. But it seemed like a great opportunity to do it at least this once and we may do it again," said Ronayne.
Sabres president Ted Black said he is glad MSG found a way to offer the game to fans on local television.
There is no new movement in the dispute between MSG and Time Warner.
"I wish I had a good answer for you. But you know I have to tell you regrettable there are no meaningful or productive discussions going on with Time Warner," said Ronyane.
