University at Buffalo president Satish Tripathi spoke at a Buffalo Rotary Club meeting Thursday about plans for UB 2020.

President Tripathi explained that the first step of UB 2020 is to bring UB's medical school downtown. Tripathi said having students working hand in hand with medical facilities in the area will bring people from around the world to Buffalo for it's quality medical care.

"The medical school move is really a huge thing, not just for Buffalo and UB but the entire region. The efficiency that it provides being closer our partners at Roswell Park, Kaleida Health, Buffalo General so we can really create the first quality clinical and medical care in Western New York," said Tripathi.

Plans also include partnering with other non-medical businesses across Western New York to train students in their desired field.

Tripathi said the school will be hiring 300 new professors within 5 years. He said this will create more selection for students and in turn more people from across the country will choose UB.

Tripathi also reacted to the Governors $1-Billion investment in Buffalo. He said the money will really grow the cities economy and businesses will see that growth want to bring jobs here to Buffalo.

"If you've got job creation it's going to be helpful for everyone, UB as well. you've got the students who can stay here, they could get jobs here. You've got the new cluster of companies that could work with the faculty. It's really a win, win for everyone," said Tripathi.

Tripathi will be visiting 20 cities in 20 months meeting with UB alumni to share the vision of UB 2020 and how they can participate in the project.
