The unseasonably mild end to last year has stretched into the New Year, but Friday morning you might want to put away the spring jacket.

Forecaster Bob Hamilton at the National Weather Service office in Buffalo said the entire region will be under a Winter Weather Advisory Friday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Friday for Northern Erie, Niagara, Genesee and Orleans Counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be posted from 1 a.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Friday, then a Lake Effect Snow Watch will be up from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon for Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Wyoming Counties.

"That Winter Weather Advisory  is up everyone across all Western," said Hamilton.

Two to four inches of snow could fall, but it shouldn't create much accumulation in the city.

"Snow accumulations are not going to be that significant in the Buffalo metro area. There will be some lake enhancement to the south," said Hamilton.

But gusty winds could reach 45 miles per hour complicating things, creating blowing snow and reducing visibility.  By the weekend temperatures will drop into the teens to near 20.
