Students will be heading out around UB's North campus in Amherst collecting non-perishable food for the Food Bank of Western New York.
UB students will be dressed in Halloween costumes to participate in Trick or Eat, a program sponsored by the Meal Exchange. Terri Budek is the community engagement coordinator at UB's student leadership and community engagement. Budek said this event engages students to get involved in important issues.
Students will be collecting non perishable items tonight to help feed the region's hungry. Food Bank spokesman Mike Billoni said it's a unique way to collect food for those in need.
Students will be collecting the food from 4:3o p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday night in some Amherst neighborhoods.
Last year the students donated 3,000 pounds of food that helped area families struggle to make ends meet. This year students are hoping to collect up to 5,000 pounds.
