Buffalo, NY – Unionized healthcare workers at the threatened Mattina Health Center on the West Side said Friday there is a State Court order blocking the Center's closure.

According to John Klein with CWA Local 1168, Kaleida will be served today with an order directing them to stop the closing process until a judge rules on the union's grievance.

Kaleida was taking steps to close the clinic on August first. Klein said the order does not permanently block the closure. But he said it gives them time to mobilize public support.

"This is one of our poorest area's of the city and we're turning our backs on them, and I think people are going to respond to that," said Klein. "Legally, maybe Kaleida can do this. But, if nothing else, we want to make sure everyone understands what Kaleida is doing here."

Kaleida had not yet returned WBFO's call for comments.
