Tonawanda, NY – Funeral services were held Friday for Staff Sergeant Michael Lammerts, a local soldier killed in action in Afghanistan on April 4.

An estimated 200 people, perhaps more, gathered inside Amigone Funeral Home in the Town of Tonawanda. Outside the funeral home stood dozens of motorcycles. The Patriot Guard Riders of New York offered an escort from the funeral home to the cemetery.

WBFO'S Michael Mroziak put together this photo slide show from outside the funeral home.

At the family's request, electronic media were asked not to cover the funeral but reporters were allowed inside to listen.

Staff Sergeant Lammerts was remembered as a man with a passionate love for his family and for his country.

Sgt. Lammerts was survivor of two tours in Iraq. He is survived by his wife and two young children, ages 3 and 1.
