WIC providing to thousands through Catholic Charities

Buffalo, NY – In the spring of 2009, Erie County ended its participation in the federal funded WIC program. WIC stands for Women, Infants and Children. It is a supplemental nutrition program that provides free, healthy foods, nutrition and breastfeeding education and support.

Catholic Charities rescued the WIC program two years ago. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley discussed this vital service with the Catholic Charities director Sister Mary McCarrick is Diocesan Director, WIC client Arlene Gonzales and WIC coordinator Elizabeth O'Connor.
