Corwin campaign criticized for fundraising move; Corwin responds

By Chris Jamele

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan is lashing out at the Jane Corwin campaign for a fundraising move.

House Speaker John Boehner is helping to raise funds for Corwin, who is the Republican candidate for the 26th Congressional District seat. Lenihan claims this move disrespects constituents in that district who suffered through the tragedy of Flight 3407.

Boehner's House colleagues passed a watered-down amendment of the flight safety measures fought for by the Families of Flight 3407.

But Corwin's campaign for Congress responded back calling Lenihan's remakrs "outrageous.

The following is a statement issued by from Matthew Harakal, Communications Director for Jane Corwin for Congress:

"It's absolutely outrageous that Len Lenihan is attempting to use the Flight 3407 tragedy to score cheap political points. Last week, Jane Corwin clearly and forcefully stated her opposition to the misguided efforts to weaken last year's long-overdue aviation safety reforms that were a direct result of the Flight 3407 tragedy, and said that she would have voted against efforts to weaken these reforms."

The following is a statement from Erie County Democratic Committee Chair Len Lenihan in response to the announcement that John Boehner will campaign for Jane Corwin next month:

"After yesterday's House vote that spat in the face of the families of Flight 3407 by weakening our hard-fought aviation reforms, it is insulting that Jane Corwin has invited Speaker John Boehner, leader of the Republican-led House, to fundraise for her in the very community that endured the heartbreak of this tragedy. While I am not surprised that an Albany politician has called on a Washington politician to come to her aid, I call on the Corwin campaign to retract this invitation immediately."
