Former police officer sentenced to jail

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – A fired Niagara Falls police officer has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison for tipping off drug dealers to police investigations, buying crack cocaine while on duty and groping a woman he'd pulled over.

Ryan Warme pleaded guilty in April to three felonies, including groping a motorist he stopped in 2007.

Assistant US Attorney Anthony Bruce said it was a tough case to prosecute.

"It's sad when a prosecutor has to put in jail one of their own," Bruce said. "It's even sadder that this individual had everything going for him."

Prior to sentencing, Warme also admitted that he threatened a government witness.
