Buffalo, NY – State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is recommending that the state not move forward on a $2 billion statewide emergency radio network until the company building it fixes a host of problems.
The state Office of Technology is expected to decide whether to go ahead with the project by August 29th.
DiNapoli says an audit found numerous operational deficiencies and other problems that led to delays and continued testing failures. A second audit found the system doesn't appear to be cost-effective.
The network is designed to integrate emergency communication statewide. The effort was hastened after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, when some emergency crews were hampered by communications problems.
