Cuomo Continues Crackdown on Internet Distribution of Child Porn

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is threatening to take legal action against a Williamsville-based Internet provider if it fails to block access to child pornography. So far, LocalNet has refused to join several other Internet providers which have voluntarily agreed to such blocking.

Cuomo says he rejects arguments that his crackdown violates free speech rights.

"For years, we have allowed children to be hurt and exploited by this vague, illusory argument that people should have a right to do what they want to do," Cuomo said.

Cuomo appeared at a Buffalo school yesterday to say Earthlink, Juno and NetZero are among the providers to voluntarily agree to his initiative. Time Warner agreed in June to block access to news groups and other sources of child porn.
