Looking to Return Ice Skating to Hoyt Lake

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – A Buffalo lawmaker wants to see if it is possible to return ice skating to Hoyt Lake at Delaware Park.

Delaware District Council member Michael LoCurto says he would like to see the return of skating at Delaware Park. The Common Council is calling for a feasibility study. LoCurto says they will ask the Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Erie County for help.

Erie County currently has a contract with Olmsted under the County-City Parks merger. Bob Stotz is the parks operation manager at Olmsted. He says they would be willing to explore the possibility. But Stotz says liability could be a sticking point.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says returning ice skating to Hoyt lake is a great idea and should be studied..
