Albany, NY – Sixteen public schools in New York have been named federal Blue Ribbon Schools.
The list includes four from this area -- Smallwood Drive School in Amherst, Casey Middle School in Williamsville, Eggert Road School in Orchard Park and Bemus Elementary in Bemus Point. They were all cited for meeting high levels of student achievement on state assessment tests.
Education Commissioner Richard Mills says the 16 schools which were cited are "standard setters." He says students in all New York schools are performing at a higher level but that there is still a "way to go."
