Buffalo, NY – State Education Commissioner Richard Mills spent the first day of school noting the progress of two Western New York schools.
Wednesday morning, Mills and Board of Regent Chancellor Robert Bennett visited pre-kindergarten classes at Windermere Elementary in Amherst. The commissioner pointed to the district as a model of pre-kindergarten programs that are now a focus of the Education Department.
Later, Mills stopped by Buffalo's Bennett High School to review its efforts to improve graduation rates. Mills says there is a connection between early learning and academic success.
