Buffalo, NY – A private health insurance company is expanding its Tonawanda office.
United Healthcare officials announced Wednesday they plan to hire 130 new employees. The office's director, Karen Bogdan, says total employment will reach 600 by year's end.
"In this year, with our growth, we will more than double the employee base at this site since we opened in 2005," Bogdan said. "We're making huge strides. This is a great opportunity for the area."
United Healthcare specializes in what's known as consumer-directed healthcare, which is designed to help consumers manage their spending by giving them more financial control.
The company was known as Definity Health prior to a 2004 merger. A new sign replacing the Definity name with United Healthcare was unveiled Wednesday.
