Buffalo, NY – Some of Western New York's most prominent leaders gathered at the Center for Bioinformatics Tuesday to launch a new advocacy campaign for UB.
The new initiative, called UB Believers, is a coalition of supporters who will help promote the university. UB currently has an economic impact of $1.5 billion. But university planners hope to increase that to $2.6 billion by 2020, spurring business and creating thousands of new jobs.
UB President John Simpson says the university can lead the way to a prosperous local economy.
"In a very real sense, we all share the belief that we are in this -- whatever this might be -- together," Simpson said. "By working together -- the university and its community -- we have a strong future for our region."
UB Believers are being asked to advocate for the university by recruiting other members and by spreading the word about the value of UB.
