Buffalo, NY – Congresswoman Louise Slaughter wants to end an oil industry practice that she says is contributing to high gasoline prices.
The Western New York Democrat says she's co-sponsoring legislation that would prohibit what's known as "zone pricing." She says gasoline retailers are now required by "big oil" to buy from a specific branded wholesaler.
Slaughter says her bill would allow retailers to shop around for a cheaper wholesaler, passing the savings onto consumers.
Slaughter says she's also sending a letter to the Government Accountability Office requesting an investigation into the practice of zone pricing.
