Council Questions Police Commissioner on Budget Plans

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Police Department spending was under review Thursday by the Buffalo Common Council during budget hearings. The Mayor's proposed budget calls for the hiring of 40 new police officers.

Lawmakers questioned Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson about how officers are tackling serious crime and quality of life issues. Fillmore District lawmaker David Franczyk says too much noise is a big issue for his district.

Gipson noted that overall crimes have dropped in the city by seven percent last year. Click the "listen" icon above to hear Eileen Buckley's story now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
