New Web Site a Tool for Nursing Home Information in New York

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, NY – A new State Health Department web site gives families an innovative tool for finding the best nursing facility for their loved one.

Take a walk through the halls of a nursing facility and it's not always easy to see the true quality of care. Now, for the first time, families can log onto a web site - CWRU Web server www.nyhealth.gov - and find out a lot about what you don't see during a personal visit.

WBFO's Joyce Kryszak talked about the benefits of the web site with Robert Meise, a former president of the Western New York Association of Nursing Homes. Meise, who is President of Beechwood Continuing Care, says the web site is a valuable tool that will aid nursing homes, as well as families. And he says information about 19 different quality care measures are especially helpful if viewed objectively.
