UB President Unveils Ambitious Master Plan

By Gabe DiMaio

Buffalo, NY – UB President John Simpson unveiled ambitious plans for the University at Buffalo Thursday. He says it is something the University has not seen in over a generation.

It is a master plan to manage major growth of the university by 40 percent. Simpson says UB plans to grow by 750 faculty and 10,000 students over the next 15 years.

"It needs to do so to have the critical mass to do what we need to do, both within our departments and programs and to compete in the very Darwinian world of higher education," Simpson said.

Simpson says this growth will act as a catalyst to transform the Western New York economy to one based on knowledge, technology, and creativity.

Simpson says part and parcel of growing the university is connecting the UB campuses in Amherst, University Heights and downtown and providing a safe, modern, attractive series of spaces for current and future faculty, staff and students.
