Buffalo, NY – Thousands of volunteers participated in Wednesday's 14th annual United Way Day of Caring. It marks the official start of the fundraising agency's Community Care campaign.
United Way President Arlene Kaukus says more than 160 companies in the area agreed to let their employees spend the day helping others.
"In Erie County alone, we had close to 3,400 folks volunteering," Kaukus said. "That's an awesome number. At the end of the day, they're going to drive back into the community about $250,000 worth of work."
Kaukus says Day of Caring participants will be painting, landscaping, taking kids on field trips, providing meals to the elderly and more. She says it gives participants first-hand knowledge about how their donations to the Community Care campaign are being used.
