Buffalo, NY – Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Maria Whyte and fellow lawmaker Timothy Kennedy have introduced a bill to spend $90,000 on youth programs this summer.
Whyte says kids need a place to go during late afternoon and evening hours for recreational activities. She says summer youth programs have proven effective in reducing crime.
Whyte says without the county funding, a program at the Northwest Buffalo Community Center will have to be cut back.
Whyte says her bill is "absolutely a high-priority for this community." She says the kids will suffer if the funding proposal fails to pass.
