Buffalo, NY – Newly-released data show hospitals in New York lost $127 million last year. A lobbying group for the state's hospitals says 2004 marked the seventh straight year of losses.
The data on hospital losses were prepared by the Healthcare Association of New York. HANYS reviewed financial statements from 213 hospitals across the state. While hospitals in the Buffalo-Niagara region collectively lost money last year, just 70 miles down the Thruway, hospitals in the Rochester area ended 2004 in the black.
Matt Cox is a spokesman for HANYS. He joined us on the phone Tuesday from his Albany office to talk about the plight of the state's hospitals. Click the "listen" icon above to hear their conversation now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
