Independent Health Ranks in Top Ten of "US News and World Report" Rankings

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The current edition of "US News and World Report" offers its rankings of the best health insurance companies in the country.

Amherst-based Independent Health is the only plan to be included among the Top 10 in three different categories -- commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. Independent Health President Dr. Michael Cropp said being included among the best in all three categories is significant.

"It integrates two elements. One is the quality of care that members receive, and the other is the satisfaction with the care and services," Cropp said. "The measures used to determine these rankings are the most reliable in the industry for assessing the value that health care plan members receive."

Health Now of Buffalo, the parent company of Blue Cross-Blue Shield and Community Blue, and Univera Healthcare of Williamsville also scored well in the "US News and Word Report" rankings -- each is in the top 30 in all three categories.
