Buffalo, NY – Another top Erie County leader has made late payments on personal county and town taxes. But this time it is the county's top fiscal watchdog.
The Buffalo News says County Comptroller Nancy Naples was late in paying her taxes in five of the past seven years. An internal review by the county's taxation department was ordered by County Executive Giambra after it was revealed last week that his budget director was late in paying his school and property tax bills.
Giambra says his taxation department poured over a great deal of information.
"We wanted to really check with every single taxing jurisdiction. That included city, town and village school districts in order to compile this information," Giambra said.
Naples has paid out more than $7,000 in late penalties. Naples says it was an oversight and it has been remedied.
