Fredonia Soldier Dies from Injuries Sustained in Afghanistan

Washington, DC – The US Department of Defense has announced the death of a Western New York serviceman who was serving in Afghanistan.

Specialist Phillip Witkowski of Fredonia died on Saturday in Homberg, Germany. He was taken there after suffering non-combat related injuries in Kandahar, Afghanistan last Friday.

Defense officials did not elaborate other than to say the incident remains under investigation.

Witkowski was assigned to the Army s 7th Field Artillery, 25th Infantry Division based in Hawaii.
