Buffalo, NY – What should have been a leisurely Sunday afternoon in Ontario Sunday turned into gridlock at the area's three border crossings.
U.S.-bound border traffic backed up for three to five hours at the Peace, Rainbow and Lewiston-Queenston Bridges. Police shut down Highway 405 and on-ramps to the Lewiston-Queenston bridge to stop traffic from backing onto other highways and city streets.
One Canadian official says congestion like this only happens when the U.S. issues orange security alerts.
