Buffalo, NY – Adelphia Communications will expand its call center operations in the Buffalo area as part of a consolidation that will reduce the number of such centers nationwide from 70 to 11.
Adelphia operates call centers near the Buffalo waterfront and in Cheektowaga. The expansion announced Friday will create 35 new jobs at the Buffalo center, which currently employs nearly 1,000 workers.
Jeanne Coleman, Adelphia General Manager in Buffalo, said the call center restructuring is part of the company's continuing efforts to enhance customer service and increase efficiency.
She said the Buffalo area call centers were retained because of the region's strong workforce.
Mayor Anthony Masiello cited the similarities Buffalo and Adelphia share, noting both are coping with financial crises.
"We're both coming through it," Masiello said. "We're going to come out of it stronger and better."
Adelphia continues to reorganize under bankruptcy protection in the wake of the financial scandal in 2002 involving the founding Rigas family.
