Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Common Council may change its mind about the moving of a taxi stand it approved earlier this year.
Cab drivers say they've lost business since the taxi stand that had been on the north side of the Brisbane Building for more than 50 years was moved to Clinton Street near the Hotel Lafayette. The move made room for parking meters, which business leaders say are necessary to replace parking lost with the conversion of several streets from one-way to two-way traffic.
North District Council Member Joseph Golombek said the Council made a mistake in approving the change. But Ellicott District Council Member Brian Davis supports the meters, which are in his district, and says more than a hundred businesses downtown have signed a petition in favor of them.
