Buffalo, NY – The area's newest charitable foundation is in the process of making its first round of grants.
The Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York specializes in health care.
It's an independent venture that was created in 2001 as a result of the merger of health insurers Univera and Excellus.
Foundation President Ann Monroe said they're now accepting proposals from organizations involved in health care.
"We're looking for projects where a one time infusion of dollars might help make that program more sustainable, more effective," said Monroe.
"We're not ready yet as a new foundation to develop or embark on long term relationships. We've got to learn a little more about the issues, and about the communities. So, for this RFP (request for proposals) it is a one time funding."
Monroe said the foundation is seeking to help groups that seek to improve access to primary care as well as those providing care for the elderly.
A conference call for those interested in applying for the grants will be held Monday afternoon.
